Kauth was born in Minneapolis, Wisconsin and was
older than her brother Willard. Shortly after World
War 1, she joined her
brother in New York City and also worked at several
settlement houses.
A
great lover of nature and science she was in charge
of
the "Papoose" girls at Camp Manitou when
it first opened. These were
very small children, 3 to 5 years old and included
Barbara Kauth.
She planned their activities and took them through
their summer camp days.
In
1941, she was the director of Camp Talako when it
opened.
For many years she suffered from tuberculosis and
tragically died in 1944.
