Miss Marie worked as a housekeeper and cook for the
Kauths. She was the first cook at Manitou. She loved
mushrooms and use to collect them from the swamp between
Manitou and Talako. She dried them over the stove and
then used them in sauces and other goodies at camp.
Every season she and Mrs. Kauth use to harvest the grapes
from the grape arbor and make jelly at camp. She also
made great gingerbread cookies.
